How do you guys handle this? What's a good vacume to take care of it? Thanks
There are rubber brushes you can get that are grate to brush the fer off the fernature and clothes, and there is a thing called rubber scrubbers on a stick off of flylady.net is a a rubber brush like a mop on a stick adn it is great to get the fer off the carpet. Also, there is a foam spray you spray on the floor and let set for ten to fifteen minute adn it helps the fer adn dirt seperate from the carpet so you can facume it up. I used this and I vacumed three or four times and the vacume was full each time, before using this not much would show up in the vacume.
The Dyson Animal is wonderful for those in the UK. I've had mine for about five years now, and it's still going as good as ever. You'll pay for it, but any vacuum worth its salt when it comes to animal hair is going to cost you.
I've also heard great things about the rumba, though haven't yet tried one to verrify this. I do believe there's a post about it somewhere here though. The best part about it, of course, is that it vacuums all by itself! :)
It's almost summer, so shave it's fur off. It'll no doubtthank you when the weather's hot.
Kidding! animal rights activists need not bomb my house lol
OMG! They should thank you for such helpful advice; the poor, poor animal!
Most vacuum cleaners work just fine. I know my great nan uses her hoover for the floors and carpets and it picks up the dog hair fine. Mind you, Westhighland Terriers aren't particularly hairy dogs.
The Rhumba gets clogged quickly with dog hair, or so I've heard.
We have one, and it works great. The only problem with one of those is that you have to clean it out every time you use it, which can be quite time consuming if you haven't had a lot of practice, which I haven't yet.
I have a Kirby, and it works wonderfully. If there's a lot of hair though, I usually get a couple of paper towels and pick up the hair that accumulates in the corners and behind doors and the likes before I actually vacuum.
I have plenty of German sheperd hair if anyone find themselves needing any just let me no. hahahaha. Its amazing how much dog hair there really is. I don't see how she can have any left from all that she looses, and all that I brush off her. I use a little cordless vacume every day just real quick, and then once a week I use the big vackume to really get it all up.
Some pet supply shops sell adhesive rollers to get dog & cat hair off furniture & other surfaces. If you have a hardwood or tile floor I like the Swiffer vac, just throw out the pad & shake the filter when you're done, then charge it for next time.
Those sticky rolers are very expensive though if you're using them every day. A cheaper alternative is parcel tape or selotape. Does exactly the same thing.
at a place called canis.no i bought a pet hair magnet. Kind of looks like the thing you clean your window with. that works great on carpets and furniture. just scrub it along a small serface, and pick off the hair that loosens. 1st time i cleaned my carpet with that one i got about a half plastic bag worth of dog hair. :(

Okay, from somebody who once had a yellow lab, and man, do they ever shed a whole, whole lot even with daily grooming ... I recommend the pledge fabric sweeper. It is a disposable hair cleaner. It is this little plastic device with rollers on its bottom that kind of feel like tennis balls, for lack of a better descripter. However, the sweeper is good for multiple uses and costs around $4 for one. When the little rollers pick up the hair it goes into the inside of the plastic thing they sit in and when that thing is full, you just throw that one away and buy a new one. But trust me, it takes awhile before the fabric sweeper gets full. I have a cat now and, while she doesn't shed nearly as much as my dog used to, I still find the fabric sweeper very, very helpful.
